Content Audit Kit

Two Google Sheets templates to take a content project from inventory to editorial decision.

USD 15 · One-time payment · Immediate access

An inventory catalogs what exists. An audit evaluates whether what exists is useful, clear, or needs rewriting. These are two distinct exercises — but running the audit without the inventory as a foundation means starting to evaluate without knowing what you are evaluating.

This kit includes both, in that order.

What is included

Template 1 — Content Inventory (v1.1)

4 tabs: Introduction with usage instructions · Inventory with 17 columns across three levels · Legend with definitions for each field and status values · Summary with automatic counts by status, format, and owner.

The column system distinguishes required fields (5 columns without which there is no inventory), recommended fields (7 columns that cover most projects), and optional fields (analytics and SEO metadata for projects focused on search positioning). Hierarchical numbering —1.0, 1.1, 1.1.2— preserves parent-child content relationships.

Template 2 — Content Audit (v1.1)

4 tabs: Introduction with methodological context and prerequisites · Audit with 6 qualitative criteria rated 1-5 · Legend with descriptive rubric per criterion and level · Summary with averages per criterion and distribution of decisions.

Criteria: Usability · Comprehension · Findability · Actionability · Audience alignment · Voice and tone.

Action decisions: Keep · Revise · Remove · Gap detected.

The rubric includes text descriptors for each level of the scale so that evaluation does not depend on the personal judgment of the auditor.

How it works

  1. You buy the kit — USD 15, one-time payment.
  2. You receive two links to make an editable copy in your Google Drive.
  3. You start with the Inventory. Once it is ready, you use the Audit.

Who it is for

  • Researchers, information designers, and content strategists starting a redesign, CMS migration, or content cleanup.
  • Those who need to present editorial decisions to stakeholders with methodological backing.
  • Those who rebuild the same column system from scratch on every new project.

Not for those seeking a strategic audit — the kind that evaluates alignment with already-defined KPIs and key messages. This template does a best practices assessment: it evaluates content against sector best practices. The difference is documented in the Introduction tab of the Audit.
